And we're back! If you've found this blog, you're most likely looking to follow the misadventures of Katie, Chris, and Luna Schmieg Miller as they bounce around the UK on their next journey. Or maybe it's 2050 and we are now travel blog billionaires and you want to see how we got our start (fingers crossed). Feel free to dive into our earlier posts if you want to get a taste of how we document our travels. I particularly enjoy this post about Bratislava, but I also love to hear myself talk so your mileage may vary.
Back to Scotland!
Katie got accepted to a Master's program at Queen Margaret University to study Arts, Festival, and Cultural Management (AFC like KFC is how we remember it) in Edinburgh, Scotland. We are leaving in August and the program will be three semesters, so we'll be gone for at least a year, possibly a bit longer depending on how things shake out. Honestly, I keep waiting for a UK customs official to notice their mistake and kick me out of the country, so I'd be happy if we make it even a month.
It was hard to leave our jobs but after a year of stagnation (and stress and fear and exhaustion) with Covid, it was difficult to pass up an opportunity like this. If you know us, we live from trip to trip, jonesing for that next international experience, so it was considerably difficult for me to cancel flight after flight as Covid refused to wane. We had plans to go to Mexico (twice), The Bahamas, and Chile but ultimately had to axe all of them, so naturally we jumped at the opportunity to not only visit, but LIVE in Europe - something we have dreamed about since we started bopping around the globe nearly a decade ago.
Katie gets a student visa for her program and as her dependent (she loves bringing that up constantly), I also get a visa to work in the UK, possibly with Comcast's European based company Sky Media. I keep saying that ideally Katie goes to school AND gets a full time job, so I can hone my skills as a stay at home dog dad but Katie insists that's a nonstarter. Yes, Luna is coming with! America's favorite dog will be making the voyage with us, and she was SUPPOSED to leave in August but her paperwork hit a snag so she's coming next month (more on that soon).
So watch this space for our travels, general ramblings, and explorations over the next year! Possible future posts may include: Chris getting heavily into local sports clubs, Luna discovering the Scottish countryside, Katie dealing with drunk men in kilts at Scottish festivals, or our vital search to select a local pub for football and pints!
